Ministry of Finance’s letter crosses off Constitution, Media Law Code of accessing informationNo Comment
Nai supporting open media in Afghanistan has achieved a letter that has been recently disseminated by the Ministry of Finance to its custom departments not to do interviews with the media across the country, that letter stated that based on the decision made by the leaderships of the Ministry of Finance the list of those who can do interview with media has been determined, therefore for spreading reliable information and avoid further problems in the future the department of relation and public awareness of the Ministry of Finance should be informed to receive permission for doing interviews within the province’s offices.
The department head of relationship and public awareness and the Ministry’s spokesman have signed at the button of the letter, the following letter has been disseminated to related departments and offices for further execution, related to the issue the correspondents working in the west side of the country have complained to the media watch of Nai that officials in Herat’s custom department do not want to do interviews with media, stating that they have no permission to do interviews with media because they are asked not to do so from the Ministry level.
Director General of Nai supporting open media in Afghanistan Abdul Mujeeb Khalvatgar has declared the letter of the Ministry of Finance contrary to article 34 of constitution and article 50 of mass media code and code of accessing information, the Ministry of Finance should facilitate ways for freedom of speech not to build obstacles.
We urgently demand the Ministry of Finance to announce the following letter un valid and re do its commitments against the Afghanistan’s constitution.
We also demand the correspondents to determine their sources clearly and understand that on staff of the custom department can not respond to all questions about the Ministry of Finance.
Nai supporting open media in Afghanistan will pursue the issue seriously.
