Nai is concerned on media situation in Ghazni

A month back there were 8 active radios, 2 active TV stations and two active papers but now it is zero.

Taliban either damaged media or caused media to be shut down. According to reports, the first action Taliban performed after attack on Ghazni on beginning hours on 10th August was destroying communication and media antennas. Then they burned Ghaznawiyan TV and Radio station and hanged out some letters on other media outlets warning then to not get active back.

This means the flow of information is stopped in Ghazni, the access to information is zero and freedom of expression is about to be zero.

Nai thinks what is going on in Ghazni is against constitution and media law of Afghanistan, and the government of Afghanistan is obliged to pave the ground to get the situation back in normal mood. The government of Afghanistan should talk to international community to look back to the city and get the construction works as soon as possible back.

Furthermore, today is the last day of social media week. Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan celebrates the week every year since 2011. Each year Nai focuses on different topics. This year the topic was Fake News. Nai had a campaign of spreading out the concept of Fake News and aware citizen on what impact Fake News has on public. Nai also conducted a survey on what social media users see the Fake News and how they are being impacted. 1353 individuals participated in the survey. 94 % of participants said they have been effected by Fake News and 6 % said not effected directly.

Nai asked the government of Afghanistan to work on culture of coping Fake News and also provide information for citizen through online tools to prevent Fake News.

Moreover, according to Nai’s assessment, out of 27 ministries only 4 of them have female spokespersons. Out of Kabul, 18 provinces do not have even a single female employee in their public relation offices, while 34 female staffs are working into 15 other provinces.

Nai asks Afghanistan’s Government to increase the number of Female spokespersons and relation officers at the governmental entities.
