Security Officials should change their behavior against journalistsNo Comment
Today, 26th, July 2018 around 06:30 am early in the morning two camerapersons of Pazhwak News Agency and Kabul News TV’s were beaten up and violated by police and National Security Forces.
Zainullah Mahboobi, cameraperson of Pazhwak News Agency and Javed Hamdard, cameraperson of Kabul News TV were beaten up and violated while they went to cover the suicide attack which occurred in Bagh Dawood area, District five of Kabul city, the Special Security Forces have beaten them up and broke their cameras.
Zainullah Mahboobi, cameraperson of Pazhwak News Agency said to Nai’s Media Watch that when they reached the area where the incident occurred, the special security forces prevented them from covering the scene and said them you don’t have the right to film: “Though we didn’t film and take picture but special security forces came to us and took my camera, threw that on the floor, slapped me on my face and even wanted to fire.”
Meanwhile, Javed Hamdard, cameraperson of Kabul News TV, in interview told to Nai’s Media Watch that though we said to NDS that we have not recorded but they behaved roughly and threw the cameras on the floor: “My camera was thrown, it has been damaged and it can’t be repaired.”
Kabul News TV’s officials in contact with Nai’s Media Watch said that at first we ask NDS to apology for their violent behavior and secondly they should pay for the loss.
Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan is worried, despite all those recommendations and repeated talks since 2003 yet we don’t see any change in NDS’s behavior.
Abdul Mujeeb Khalvatgar, Managing Director of Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan says: “We ask National Security Department to seriously follow up this case and it may not be like last times because every time that we have asked government to investigate and follow up such cases we couldn’t get any respond and violence against journalists has been increased by NDS.”
Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan strongly asks National Security Department to follow up this case and announce the result of their investigation and follow up among journalistic community.
The continuity of such situation can be harmful for journalistic community and as well as Afghanistan’s government.
