Last week was the worst week for freedom of expression and access to information in the country. During this period about 10 complaints have been registered at Nai Media Watch, most of them revealed that one of the major challenges that journalists face is inaccessibility to information.
Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan has recorded complaints regarding the behavior of security forces in the provincial headquarters with journalists in the northern zones including Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz and Baghlan provinces.
On November 30, 2019, a Facebook user by the name of Mubarez Nowrozi, an employee of Economic Ministry had written a critical comment beneath the post of Mr. Amrullah Saleh, the head of Afghanistan Green Trend and the deputy for Mr. Ghani’s electoral team.
Taliban have issued a press release accusing “Khabaryal” website on spreading propaganda against Taliban’s officials and claimed that the page is bewildering public’s minds.
The Ministry of Interior has issued a directive on its social media pages which addressed officials at the ministry and causes to violate freedom of expression and access to information.
Based on the Reporters without Borders “RSF” report and the statistics recorded at Nai Media Watch department, journalists and media staff assassination has significantly been reduced in Afghanistan. Nai’s Statistics reveal that 10 journalists and media staff had been killed in 2019 while 20 journalists and media staff were killed in 2018.
Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced the ratifying of regulation on remuneration for employees of non-governmental entities and private sectors.
