Elyas Daaee, Azadi Radio journalist in Helmand province was martyred as result of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack over his car on Thursday morning, 12th November 2020. The incident occurred on the way to his office.

Mujtaba Muhammadi, Mr. Daaee’s brother, who is German Radio journalist, was also wounded up as result of the attack. The incident took place in Lashkargah district of Helmand province, and the incident occurred the time when journalists and media workers are fully concerned about their safety.

The Afghan government has repeatedly announced their plans to ensure the safety and security of journalists, but so far it has not ended up with any measurable result.

Nai urges the government to identify the perpetrator/s of violence against journalists and bring them to justice. The government should also properly review these cases and share the outcome of their work with media community.

It is noteworthy that five days ago, Mr. Yama Siavash, former ToloNews TV journalist, and two of his non-media colleagues were killed in a similar attack in Kabul.
