Recently, the Government Media and Information Center has sent a letter to the governmental and non-governmental media outlets regarding the use of drones around the Presidential Palace. Also, it has been described as a possible tool used by the enemies and prevented the use of this device around the Presidential Palace.
Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan believes that the use of drones in journalism is common around the world and widely used to help media in terms of presenting a different and less expensive images but in other countries, specific regulations have been defined based on the laws for using this tool. The regulations define the places that should not be filmed and photographed.
The Afghan government bans the use of drones while there is no defined regulation in this regard, which is against the principle of freedom of expression and in many cases it can restrict access to information. If the Afghan government wants drones to be used in a legal and defined way, so a regulation must be define in this regard and it is necessary that the regulation is based on legal frameworks and the principle of freedom of expression. On the other hand, it can also define and clarify sensitive and protected points.
