Presidential office of Afghanistan based on president order has established a new office under umbrella of Presidential office Strategic Communication section called the Office of Spokesperson for Security and Defense Institutions of the Afghanistan government. This office is responsible for sharing all security information with journalists and to prevent the dissemination of security information by other individuals and/or institutions.
Nai believes that apparently this measure is a step toward sharing security information, but in fact it can facilitate the centralization of information in a single entity and could pave the ground for distortion of information. According to Nai, practically if hundreds of Afghan journalists want to get information about a case simultaneously, they have to wait for several days to reach that information because of having the single and only office in Kabul. This process can limit access to information in a situation where people need information more than any time ever. This can be considered against the current laws in the country.
Nai asks Afghanistan president to establish provincial branches for the security spokesperson office, and if this is not possible, please reconsider your order which has caused to establish the mention office in Kabul.
