The Afghan government, in an unprecedented take, banned the distribution of all Pakistani print media in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan.
According to the Ministry of Interior, Pakistani print media has recently been diagnosed with publishing of content contrary with the national interest of Afghanistan.
Nai-Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan believes that if these media outlets created concern, then any act against their distribution should be done through its legal procedures, through Ministry of Information and Culture. Any act by the Ministry of Interior or any other irresponsible organs could create concern against free media and freedom of expression.
Moreover, if the contents of these media outlets were not against Afghanistan’s national interest, this act of the Ministry of Interior was in contrary to the article 34 of Afghanistan Constitution, and article 19 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Mass Media Law.
