A number of journalists have sealed shut their mouths due to some restrictions imposed by Interior Ministry. The journalists in Jawzjan said that “Imposition of restriction on accessibility to information has caused a serious problem for journalists.”
The Interior Ministry had issued a directive about two weeks ago, according to that none of the Interior Ministry Officials has the right to interview and provide information to media outlets. After the imposition and issuance of this directive by Interior Ministry, journalists of different provinces have complained to Nai on inaccessibility to information.
Hours after the issuance of the directive by the Interior Ministry, Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan has announced its position and declared the directive’s parts against the Access to Information Law.
Abdul Mujeeb Khalvatgar, Nai Managing Director said; by the time that the directive is issued we witness lots of problems on accessibility to information and issuance of this directive has caused barrier to journalists and their journalistic performances and moreover, it harmed police and citizens’ relation and in accordance to our belief, police will avoid citizens.”
Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan once more asks the Interior Ministry to review the directive.
